Beauty & The Beast

The stage musical Beauty and the Beast is based on the Disney animated film and the fairy tale by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont. The story is about a young woman named Belle who must save her father from a beast that has taken him captive at the castle. The Beast is actually a prince who was cursed by an enchantress and can only be transformed back into a human if he learns to love and be loved. Here’s a synopsis of the musical:

• Maurice: Belle’s father who becomes lost in the woods and is taken captive by the Beast 
• Gaston: A rude, narcissistic hunter who is the Beast’s enemy 
• Chip: The son of Mrs. Potts, the head of the kitchen staff 
• Mrs. Potts: The head of the kitchen staff who is transformed into a teapot 
• Other characters: A French valet who becomes a candelabra, an English major-domo who becomes a mantle clock, an opera singer who becomes a wardrobe, and a flirtatious maid who becomes a feather duster
